From: Imani Hood, Administrative Assistant to Crystal Wright
To: Friends of Crystal Wright,
My name is Imani Hood, I am Crystal Wright’s administrative assistant and the proud mother of a 9 year old boy, DeAndre Ford Jr. Domestic violence in the home forced me to divorce DeAndre’s father over a year ago. For nearly a year, DeAndre was without consistent positive male influence in the home. In January of this year I learned about an LA based mentoring program called Boys to Men, and while they didn’t accept boys until 4th grade and DeAndre was a 3rd grader, I knew that the influence of the positive black men who ran and worked with the boys could change the trajectory of my son’s life before it was too late. I started a campaign to get him in and didn’t stop until they said YES!
The Boys to Men mentoring program provides DeAndre with the consistent weekly male contact, cultural experience, history lesson, and discipline he needs to grow and thrive. DeAndre has two sisters and me. He needed some MEN in his life.
The founder and director of the program, Sean Rector is totally dedicated and committed to help guide these young men in the right direction. As a Mother, I am very pleased with Mr. Rector–– not only does he teach the young men discipline, respect for themselves and others, he also gives them love.

To: Friends & Colleagues,
As you know, we are loosing our black boys to the prison system, detention centers and the streets at alarming rates. I was introduced to the Boys to Men organization through my new administrative assistant Imani Hood. When she told me about the work they were doing, and how the work had positively impacted her son DeAndre, I wanted to meet Sean Rector immediately. Within a week he and two of his dedicated volunteers were sitting in my living room. I was blown away by hearing first hand from a black man about how so much money is diverted away from our boys into other programs, and then humbled by the work Sean and his team are doing with little or no resources. We can help!
Having collected and matched funds from my own portfolio building workshop graduates over the last year while waiting to be inspired by just the right cause and mission to give to, Imani introduced me to Boys to Men. Right then and there I gave Boys to Men founder Sean Rector the folder full of checks and money orders from my former students to help him with his mission.
Friends, I am committed to supporting Boys to Men and now I am asking for your IMMEDIATE support for an immediate need. On Sunday, June 9th The Tyme Foundation will hold its 8th Annual, End Of The School Year Boys to Men Fundraising Banquet at the Pickwik Gardens Conference Center in Burbank, California. They are about $3,700.00 short of what they need to produce a successful event, and I am asking you to join me in supporting Boys to Men by donating $60 - $100 each, or whatever you can give, RIGHT NOW!
SEAN ALLEN RECTOR
Sean Allen Rector (Founder/Director) was born and raised in Harlem, NY by a single mother who inspired him to reach higher and give back to his community. Sean has been given the opportunity to “giveback” capriciously to causes he believes in, such as Cancer Research for Kids, the Nebraska Aids Project, and Reality for Diabetes in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As a teacher at John Muir Middle School, he was voted Teacher of the Year in 2002, nominated for Teacher of the Year by the Education Consortium of Central Los Angeles in 2002 and 2003, and awarded the Most Motivating and Inspirational Teacher Award by the H.Y.P.E. Foundation, Inc.
TYME FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT
To develop positive young male leaders and prevent the rise in gang affiliation, juvenile crime, and high dropout rates while instilling self-confidence, the value of education, and a positive perspective for the future.
OBJECTIVE
The Boys to Men Enrichment Program offers after-school tutoring, extracurricular activities, and counseling.
“My
son DeAndre was experiencing many challenges in school. He was fighting, being defiant
and becoming a tyrant. I was on my last leg when I asked if he could join Boys
to Men. My son is the youngest member to join Boys to Men. Through prayer,
consistency, and the model of a real man in Sean Rector, my son has turned over
a new leaf. I’m grateful not to be alone in my walk with my son; I believe it
takes a village. “
